What is step-free access?

Step-free access means being able to get from street level to the platform and onto the train without encountering any steps. This typically involves lifts, ramps, and level boarding. For many travellers, a broken lift can mean the difference between a manageable journey and an impossible one.

Transport for London monitors lift status across the network and reports disruptions through their data feeds. Our alerting system checks for lift disruptions every four minutes, and only sends you an email once we've confirmed the disruption is genuine - not a temporary data glitch.

Who benefits from step-free alerts?

Wheelchair users

Know before you leave home whether your station's lifts are working

Parents with prams

Avoid stations where you'd need to carry a buggy up stairs

Heavy luggage

Travellers heading to airports or mainline stations with bags

Mobility difficulties

Anyone who finds stairs difficult or painful

How reliable are the alerts?

The TfL lift status feed can occasionally be unreliable - a disruption might briefly appear and then vanish from the data. To prevent false alerts, we use a three-check confirmation system: a disruption must appear in three consecutive checks over 12 minutes before we send you an email.

We also use escalating cooldowns (up to 4 hours between repeat alerts for the same station) and a 10-minute recovery debounce to ensure you only get notifications that matter. If the data feed goes down entirely, we treat that as "no information" rather than "everything is fine" - so you'll never get a false all-clear.

Frequently asked questions

Is this service free?

Yes, completely free. We don't charge for any alerts and never will. There are no premium tiers or hidden costs.

How quickly will I be notified?

We check the TfL lift status feed every 4 minutes. A disruption must be confirmed across 3 consecutive checks (about 12 minutes) before we send an alert. This prevents false notifications from temporary data glitches.

Which stations are covered?

Any station on the London Underground, Overground, DLR, or Elizabeth line that has lifts. When you search above, you'll see all available stations. The data comes directly from Transport for London's live status feeds.

Can I also get delay alerts?

Yes! We also offer line disruption alerts for all Tube, Overground, DLR and Elizabeth line services. Set up delay alerts here.

How do I unsubscribe?

Every alert email includes an unsubscribe link at the bottom. You can also manage all your alerts (both lift and line disruption) from your manage page. One click and you're done.
